I should have put some photos up sooner! The December New Guard dinner was a truly fabulous event with lots of stiff gin drinks and succulent holiday meats and pies and long tablecloths and a thousand winking candles and heartbreaking music, not to mention quite a few people. I wasn't expecting such a spectacular degree of showmanship and scale. I hung eight recent works on paper and am guilty of having subjected people with hungry stomachs to my florid, sentimental portraits of syphilitic genitalia (if I pursue decoration, at least let it be pathological -- or, to quote Loos on the subject, "tortured, laboriously extracted and pathological")!
Many many thanks go out to the curators Joey, Whitney, Damien and Sarah, to Jennifer at Canoe, and to Claire for being an on-call fairy godmother. And of course to Damon, for so much.
